Tom DeGise and Board of Freeholders: terminate Hudson County 287(g)

We, the undersigned organizations, call upon Hudson County Executive Tom DeGise and the Hudson County Board of Chosen Freeholders to immediately terminate Hudson County’s 287(g) agreement with ICE.

We maintain that it is completely inappropriate for Hudson County—New Jersey’s most diverse county, home to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, with immigrant communities constituting more than forty percent of all Hudson residents—to agree not only to cooperate with ICE but to train its corrections officers to carry out the ICE functions of interrogating inmates, issuing charging documents, and setting detainers—all at the expense of Hudson County taxpayers.

Respectfully,
